Flight attendants have challenging jobs, and there are several common behaviors from passengers that can make their work even more difficult. Here are seven things that passengers do that particularly annoy flight attendants:
- Standing in the Cabin Aisle During Service
- Limited space on budget airlines means efficient service is crucial. When passengers stand or linger in the aisle during meal and drink service, it obstructs the already narrow space and slows down the process significantly.
- Complaining About Prices
- Budget airlines often have additional fees for services and amenities. Complaints about these prices can be particularly grating for flight attendants who have to explain and enforce the airline’s pricing policies.
- Blaming Cabin Crew for Delays
- Delays on budget airlines can be due to quick turnaround times and various logistical issues. Flight attendants often become the target of passenger frustration, despite having no control over delays.
- Packing Bags That Are Too Heavy
- Passengers on budget airlines frequently try to maximize their carry-on allowance to avoid checked baggage fees. This results in overpacked, heavy bags that flight attendants may have to help stow, risking injury and causing delays.
- Sticking Legs Out into the Aisle
- With tighter seating arrangements, passengers extending their legs into the aisle becomes a more common problem, creating tripping hazards and obstructing service carts.
- Not Wanting to Put Loose Items in the Overhead Bin
- Passengers might resist stowing their personal items properly, hoping to keep them within easy reach due to the lack of free amenities or in-flight entertainment. This noncompliance can hinder safety and efficiency. This can be dangerous during turbulence and can delay the boarding process.
- Taking Photos of Cabin Crew
- In a budget airline setting, the stress and workload are high. Taking photos of cabin crew without their consent can invade their privacy and add to the stress of maintaining a friendly yet efficient service environment under pressure.
These behaviors can significantly impact the flight experience for both passengers and crew, making an already challenging job even more difficult for flight attendants. If you do any of these, please stop. If know someone who does all or any of these then please let them know it’s not ok. Work with your cabin staff for a better experience for you both. Happy flying!
